Why Organic Cotton Matters

Organic cotton fields

When it comes down to it, nearly everyone and their entire household are touching cotton each day. We all wear clothes, we all use bath towels, and we all sleep in beds with sheets. The conclusion is simple: We are all exposing ourselves to cotton constantly. Cotton is the most common material found in our bedding that we sleep in each and every day, and here is why:

  1. Comfortable, hypoallergenic, soft to the touch all year round.
  2. Breathable doesn’t retain perspiration or odors.
  3. Durable, and biodegradable.
  4. Machine-washable, stain-resistant, static-free.

It is the foundation of our country’s agricultural economy and history. And yet? Very little is natural anymore when concerning this natural fiber. Today, conventional cotton crops are doused in twenty-five percent of the world’s chemical pesticides, but take up only three percent of the world’s farmland. Out of all the crops in the United States, cotton is the most laden with pesticides, wreaking havoc on our land, poisoning our water supply, air, and us.

So what’s the problem, we aren’t eating it?

The toxic chemicals that are utilized in cotton farming carry a variety of carcinogens. Carcinogens are not only detrimental to humans, but to animals as well. They seep into the air we breathe–the water we drink, ultimately polluting us as much as the environment around us. In essence, we are consuming it.

Why should you turn to Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is the return to traditional farming practices without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, which not only respects the soil the crop is grown in, but also the land that is beyond the farm. The hands that sow it are cared for; the air is cared for; we are cared for.

Next time you are shopping, check the labels and make sure the product you’re buying is organic cotton. Start thinking about your animals and what you are exposing them to. Ultimately, our pets are even more sensitive than we are, and the difference between conventional and organic cotton can have a stark difference to them. Expose your animals less by turning to Organic cottons for their beds, blankets, and mats. Make the right choice for them and always choose Organic cotton dog bedding!
